How we vet every clinic — our 10-point process

You deserve complete confidence in your dental provider. Here's exactly how we evaluate and verify every clinic before it joins our network.

Why clinic vetting matters

Not all dental clinics abroad are created equal. While many are world-class facilities with board-certified specialists, others cut corners. The difference between an exceptional experience and a disappointing one often comes down to the clinic's credentials, facilities, and track record.

We've heard the horror stories — and we built our vetting process to prevent them. Every clinic in the DentalTravelGuide network undergoes a rigorous 10-point evaluation before we recommend them to patients. We verify credentials, inspect facilities, review patient outcomes, and monitor ongoing performance.

Our commitment: If a clinic doesn't meet our standards, we won't feature it — period. We turn down more clinics than we accept.

The 10-Point Vetting Process

What we check — and why it matters

01

Dental License & Board Certification

We verify every dentist's license with the national dental board and confirm specialty certifications (implantology, prosthodontics, oral surgery). We check for disciplinary actions, malpractice claims, and license suspensions.

Why it matters: Board certification means the dentist has completed advanced training beyond dental school and passed rigorous exams. It separates general practitioners from true specialists.

02

Education & Training Verification

We confirm degrees, continuing education, and any international training (e.g., U.S. or European fellowships). We verify that implantologists are trained on the specific implant systems they use.

Why it matters: Top clinics abroad often have dentists with training from U.S. or European institutions. This ensures familiarity with international standards of care and English-language communication.

03

Facility Accreditation

We check for international accreditations (JCI, ISO, AAAASF) and/or local health ministry compliance. Clinics must meet minimum standards for surgical suites, sterilization areas, and emergency equipment.

Why it matters: JCI accreditation requires meeting over 300 standards and is the same credential held by top U.S. hospitals. It's the gold standard for international healthcare facilities.

04

Sterilization & Infection Control

We verify that clinics follow CDC or WHO sterilization protocols, use autoclave sterilization with biological monitoring, and maintain separate sterile and non-sterile zones.

Why it matters: Proper sterilization is the single most important safety factor in any dental procedure. Cross-contamination can lead to serious infections. We verify this in person.

05

Technology & Equipment Audit

We assess whether the clinic uses modern equipment: 3D CBCT scanning for implant planning, digital impressions, CAD/CAM milling, laser dentistry, and sedation monitoring equipment.

Why it matters: Modern technology means more accurate diagnoses, more precise treatment, faster recovery, and better long-term outcomes. It's a red flag if a clinic is using outdated equipment.

06

Patient Volume & Experience

We evaluate how many cases of each procedure the clinic performs monthly. High-volume specialists typically have better outcomes. We verify before/after photos and case studies.

Why it matters: A clinic that does 50 All-on-4 cases per month has far more experience than one that does 5. Volume correlates with skill, efficiency, and better complication management.

07

Patient Reviews & Outcomes

We collect and verify patient reviews from multiple sources. We look for patterns — not just ratings — and investigate any recurring complaints about complications, communication, or hidden fees.

Why it matters: A 4.8-star average is meaningless if the negative reviews all mention the same issue. We read every review so we can flag systemic problems that individual ratings miss.

08

Aftercare & Warranty Policies

We review the clinic's warranty on dental work (implants, crowns, veneers), their policy for complications, and how they handle follow-up care once you return home.

Why it matters: Dental complications can arise weeks or months after treatment. A reputable clinic provides clear warranty terms and has a protocol for remote follow-up and local dentist coordination.

09

Ethical Business Practices

We verify that clinics provide transparent, itemized quotes with no hidden fees. We check that they don't pressure patients into unnecessary procedures or upsells.

Why it matters: Some dental tourism clinics are notorious for bait-and-switch pricing and aggressive upselling. We verify pricing transparency through patient interviews and mystery shopping.

10

Ongoing Monitoring & Re-Verification

Our vetting doesn't stop at acceptance. We monitor patient feedback continuously, re-verify credentials annually, and conduct surprise re-inspections for facilities in our network.

Why it matters: A clinic's quality can change over time. Continuous monitoring catches problems early — before they affect patients. Clinics that fall below our standards are removed.
